AGES 3 THROUGH 3rd GRADE 9:30 Each Sunday Morning
BE STILL AND KNOW THAT I AM GOD
Godly Play is the curriculum used for ages 3 through 3rd grade and is offered on Sunday mornings from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. at which time the children join their parents at the Peace in the morning service or for the new service at 10:15 in the Parish Hall.
There are two age groups in our Godly Play Program: 3, 4, and 5 year olds and grades 1, 2, and 3.
Godly Play is a Montessori-based program that is multi-sensory and uses a hands-on approach to Christian formation. The children are introduced to and enter into the religious language by hearing the stories of God, wondering and responding to those stories, praying together and being surrounded in a child-friendly worship setting. The Godly Play classroom provides a threshold of sacredness, safety and wonder.
The children are encouraged to enter into the presence of God through discovery and play. This is one place where our children’s ideas, opinions and gifts are deeply respected. Not only do our children learn the stories of God, but they also are encourage do explore their spirituality through prayer and theological response.
Godly Play teaches children the art of using Christian language – parable, sacred story, silence and to help them become more fully aware of the mystery of God’s presence in their lives.
When Christian language is learned by the Godly Play approach, it is learned as a means to know God and to make meaning of our lives. This approach is quite different from the traditional model in which the teacher tells the children what they need to know. Our goal in Godly Play is to show how to be open to the Holy Spirit, the Creator, and the Redeemer all at once and all the time in every place. To achieve this goal is to help children become deeply rooted as Christians and yet at the same time use this powerful language and community to be open and creative.

With the implementation of our new family service, Children's Chapel will not longer take place on the fourth Sunday of the month. Instead, children of ALL AGES are invited to join us for the new children's chorus. We will learn age appropriate music and share our gifts during worship throughout the coming year!
